On October 20-21, 2022, the Pangasinan State University Asingan Campus team revisited the island of Siapar in Anda, Pangasinan. Built with more knowledge of livelihood programs, they shared helpful information on different areas. The day started with a statement of purpose, which was discussed by Ms. Analyn Diola, the research coordinator of the PSU Asingan Campus. Afterward, lectures from different programs were held simultaneously.
Ms. Mhean Turingan, BIT faculty, skillfully shared her knowledge and techniques with the women of Siapar Island for preserving milkfish. She demonstrated skills such as preparing Spanish sardines using milkfish as the main ingredient. The community expressed gratitude and joined in cutting ingredients and preparing the sterilized bottles. They also asked numerous questions as they were interested and motivated to make one.
While Mr. Carlos Castillo and Engr. Eric Cunanan shared their skills in installing wiring, tools that will be used and doing any electrical repairs or remodelling.
Engineer John Melchor Alejo, also a BIT faculty, shared his knowledge in welding. This skill could help the men of Siapar learn how to weld their materials or be their source of income. Younger boys were very much interested in this work.
The participants were awarded certificates and tarpaulins for their business by Dr. Honelly Mae S. Cascolan, Dean of the College of Education, Asst. Prof. Adoracion T. Gante, Extension Coordinator of PSU AC, and Ms. Diola, Research Coordinator.
Lastly, before the day ended, the chosen members of the community had received some materials to start their businesses on the island. The team of PSU Asingan campus awarded these materials. Ms. Janna Arce and Ms. Angela Miana, faculty of BSBA, interviewed some community members for their insights about the extension programs held last September 15-16 and October 20-21, 2022. They were delighted to share and show their gratitude to the Pangasinan State University Asingan Campus team.
